Over 500 Memorizers Attending Quran Contest in Dubai

TEHRAN (IQNA) – More than 500 Quran memorizers have taken part in an annual Quran competition organized by the Maktoum Holy Quran Memorization Centers in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

The city’s Islamic Affairs and Activities Department (IACAD) said the final round of the 2022 edition has gotten underway with the participation of 172 men and 339 women, AL-Khalij website reported.

According to Hamad Muhammad al-Khazraji, director of the Maktoum Holy Quran Memorization Centers, registration for the contest was done in August via the website of the IACAD.

He said the categories of the event include memorization of the entire Quran for all age groups, memorization of 20 Juzes (parts) of the Quran for all age groups, memorization of 15, 10, 5, and 3 Juzes for those born after 2011, memorization of the 30th Juz for those born after 2014, and recitation of the last 5 Juzes of the Holy Book.

Khazraji noted that the last category is only for UAE citizens born in 1969 and earlier.

Winners will be announced and awarded at a ceremony slated to be held in the first week of November, he went on to say.

The Maktoum Holy Quran Memorization Centers are affiliated to Dubai’s Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, whose aims, according to its website, include spreading and promoting the values of moderate Islam, developing the charitable work and building mosques in accordance with international best practices.

The centers organize Quranic courses, including on memorization of the Holy Book, for male and female students free of charge.
